Did I mention road work? Well, we knew that Monday morning they would be patching and paving the roads in our half of the campground. And woke up to NOISE. So we packed up and moved to the other half of the campground for breakfast. We were joined by a Western blue jay:
Then we spent the rest of the morning at Kalaloch beach. It was cold and nearly drizzly, and definitely windy.

I have been fascinated by this tree hanging over this grotto since last year. So much more of the creek under it has washed out in those twelve months. I wonder if it will still be alive next time we see it.

The grotto beneath, complete with dripping water

More beautiful layers eroding on the cliff
|
I loved the colors and textures of these plants on the cliffside.

One type of seaweed washed up

And another

Rock layers at two different angles
After we finished at Kalaloch Beach, we returned to Beach 4 for the afternoon:

I was amazed by the colors and shapes in this tiny pebble. I wonder where it came from. Rocks wash over the streams and oceans over such vast time. It must have a story to tell, but I am no geologist.
I was stunned by the beauty of Lake Crescent on the way home from Kalaloch last year, and I determined that I wanted to stop and take it in this time. We planned to cook our dinner there. There is no way that my photos can begin to do it justice. I felt that I was catching glimpses of heaven.
