Relentless

The ocean is relentless.  We spent three days on the Pacific coast watching the waves roll, hearing them day and night.
There is no break.
It is untamable.
It is immense.
The waves are predictable.
The tides are predictable.
It is soothing.
The ocean is powerful.
It brings blessings.
And it's also deadly.
One is sobered by seeing the tsunami escape routes signs and remembering that if there is an earthquake, we might not have enough time to make it to 150+ feet above sea level...

It is good to be humbled.  Three days without showers or mirrors.  Three days surrounded by beauty.  Time to ponder how big God is and not to think about oneself much at all.

Time to recreate.

We came prepared for rain, although thankfully it barely sprinkled.

Making pancakes on the new camp stove while Anne painted.

Pretending to clean the litter boxes and "throwing poopoos into the ocean"

Solo walk along the beach.  Lots of interesting features on the rocks and sand, the cliff, and offshore...

Crab shells by the hundreds and thousands

See the bald eagle in the tree?

Little walk on the nature trail by the campground...

Lots of "Daddy, can you spin me?  Let's do games!"

Western blue jay

More painting at the beach

Another Photo Smorgasbord

Anne's upstairs friend got a new puppy, named Bobby.

Bobby came in and was set on Nutmeg's favorite chair.  Nutmeg could eat him if she wanted to.

Making salad on the porch for her bear...

She discovered her old tutu, and amazingly she can still put it on!  (Size 6-12 months)

Stringing tiny beads on a wire...

I'm in love with all the meadow grasses with their different grain heads and flowers.  All these pictures came from our favorite city park, and some of the grass is almost as tall as I am...

We have been delighting in the many cherry trees in the park.  They are hard to access, because they are very tall, and because they are surrounded by five-foot-high grasses and blackberry bushes (very brambly!)
