...Thursday I went running for the first time in about a month. Not a long run, just a little over three miles, and although I was tired afterward, I felt strong again. I've been feeling rather out of shape, only wanting to go for short stroll, and nothing quick.
These two strands are related. Saturday afternoon I had told Jared I was feeling grumpy, so after a line of questions from him, he made a suggestion which was bound to fend off every last trace of grumpiness. Which was to go to our favorite beach park in Burien. We haven't been there in quite some time. After a quick call to my brother, they decided to join us. Unfortunately when we got there, we learned that the park was undergoing renovation and the beach was closed (phooey!), but we went for a very hilly 3-ish mile hike in the woods. Which I did with Anne on my back, and I felt strong and reinvigorated.
Sunday morning I ran a mile. And later on we went for a 4-ish mile walk. And I felt strong.
Sunday afternoon we decided to go up to Seattle to hear the youth orchestra concert, which we could do for free since Jared is on their staff. That's not why we went, though. It was because Jared's former roommate was playing Aaron Jay Kernis' new cello concerto with them, which was composed for him. Anne and I stood in the concert hall while the orchestra tuned the A, but she was too excited about everything and was pointing and saying "that," so we needed to find another spot. They broadcast the concert in the lobby on closed-circuit TV, so we watched down there where she could walk and crawl and climb the stairs and "that" to her heart's content. There was another mom parked in front of the screen with three-month-old twins, and Anne was quite interested to see the babies.
After we got home, my brother and his wife came over bearing Indian food from a nearby restaurant, and we all Skyped with the Texas crew which included this time my parents, my grandmother, my sister, and her husband. Fun stuff!
Mother's Day 2014
When Anne got up I took her out so I could run one mile. I think I need to get back into this running thing, even if only in little doses, because I feel so much better!
I had a bunch of photos to put with this post, but for the life of me, I can't find the photo uploader. I remember recently setting it somewhere odd when Anne was playing with it, but I'm drawing a blank. When I find it, I'll revamp the post and let you know.
