adj.
Of, characterized by, or generating hallucinations, distortions of perception, altered states of awareness, and occasionally states resembling psychosis.
Jared looked up the term psychedelic for me the other day. I guess I'm too young to know exactly what it means other than its use in vague pop culture references. I was reading a library book written by some hippies about natural child birth. I'm glad I did. I need to have some positive drug-free birth stories in my mind to remind me that such a thing is possible and normal, and that most births don't need to involve emergency medical drama and pushy, I-know-better-than-you-do-even-though-I-don't-actually-know-you-personally doctors who are doing too much invasive stuff to you so they won't get sued... and you usually don't need needles and scalpels and chainsaws... which I DESPISE. (I had to get my blood drawn today, and despite all my efforts to drink massive amounts of water to plump up my veins they had to poke both arms to get any. At least I convinced them to let me lie down before the procedure so I didn't pass out.)
...And despite the use of "psychedelic", the book presents a drug-free narrative.
Here are some other word uses I read in said book which I'm not used to hearing in this context:
heavy
tripping
telepathic
Holy
flash on...
vibrations
altered conciousness
energy
It all seems rather quaint, like the old rockets in the Huntsville skyline.
Now Jared and I are trying to find some other fun uses for the term psychedelic. I think eating half a habanero pepper accidentally at dinner the other night qualifies. Also now I know why they talk about steam coming out of your ears. Because it actually felt like that was happening.
