I'm tired of dealing with health insurance stuff, and we're not even being forced into bankruptcy on account of medical bills, unlike many people. And we haven't had any chronic illnesses or long-term hospitalizations or unsolvable issues...
Still dealing with the insurance over unsettled bills from Jared's little ER visit last April. And still dealing with unsettled bills from his hospitalization this fall and a couple of follow-up doctor's visits. And by the way, Jared is a very healthy guy, and the upshot of all of the shocking thousands and thousands of dollars (we're talking on the order of maybe 40 or 50 Grand) that we and the insurance have been billed is that he needs to not hold stress on the inside so much/sleep a little more and he needs to take some extra vitamin D and B12. Yes, I'm glad it cost more than a new violin to figure that out. *sarcasm* And boy, if we didn't have any insurance, it would have been a real financial disaster rather than just one more of the many setbacks as of late. And I would have been begging the paramedics to go away and leave my husband unconcious on the floor, because we couldn't pay them. Turns out it probably would have been better for me to do that anyway.
Then there's trying to get our new insurance figured out, since we are no longer covered by an employer's plan. Jared's set for now, we think. And good thing, since he found out that the two gum grafts he had last spring as an after-effect of the braces he got right before we got married didn't work in a permanent fashion, and he needs another more extensive and expensive gum graft in a few weeks. Hooray.
I thought I was all squared away on the state medical insurance for the pregnancy/birth/postnatal care, but I got a letter in the mail today (so it came Saturday, but I didn't check the mail until today) saying they didn't like the information the social worker had me send them, so now I have to write letters and documents to explain why 1) their office is mistaken that my income is too high for them to cover me and why I don't need to tell them the balance of my bank account on January 1st and detail all the assets I own (vehicles, real estate, electronics, etc.), and 2) what my speculative self-employment income is right now, and why my IRS tax return from a previous year will not give them the information they need. I can do all this stuff, but it's not my favorite.
On general principles, I wish that medicine in the US weren't so expensive on account of 1) the tendency to use the most invasive and high tech options first, 2) malpractice insurance, and 3) the fact that many people's health insurance pays for spendy stuff so the prices keep getting jacked up. But I guess wishing won't make the problem go away.
When I got the letter today about my insurance, I felt pretty annoyed. But THEN...
I remembered that God knew that letter was coming. And that He could help me get the updated documentation put together, and that if they reject my application (which given what I know, they're not supposed to) He can figure out something for me. So the question is, will I trust Him and slog through my end of things in faith or will I have a fit? I can tell you the battle isn't over yet inside of me, but one outcome would be a lot prettier than the other.
