Hiking Holiday - Anderson Lake

This was our hike on July 2 - day three of our camping trip to the North Cascades.

To hike to Anderson Lake, your first have an interesting drive.  You head north from the tiny town of Concrete, Washington on the Baker Lake Road, and then you turn right on the Baker Lake Dam Road.  You actually drive right over the top of the hydroelectric dam owned by Puget Sound Energy, and wow, that is quite a drop off on the downhill side!  It does have a chainlink fence...  After you cross that, you wind up on unpaved forest service road, and you have many miles of switchbacks on that dirt/gravel road which is only a car and a half wide.  The good news is that there is virtually no traffic.  And there are some incredible views of Mt. Baker on the way up.

Anderson Lake and Watson Lakes are just on the western border of the North Cascades National Park, and I don't know, but you can likely hike/ski into the park from there.  It turns out there is actually only one road which enters the park, and that's at Cascade Pass.  To enter it anywhere else, you start on a forest service trail and work your way in.  It's very remote!

We actually had hoped to hike to the Watson Lakes, but we couldn't find the trail for all the snow, so we followed everyone else (which was rather few people, but some of them were carrying skis!) to Anderson Lake.

I wasn't able to get a shot of Mt. Baker when it was free from clouds, but it was there, it was huge, it was covered with glaciers and snow, and it was gorgeous!

Mt. Baker is behind all those clouds on the left.
