Reality Show

A few nights ago I had a dream.  I dreamed that the baby was born and was whisked away immediately by the hospital personnel for some sort of reason.  I promptly fell asleep, as did Anne.  The baby was then returned to the slumbering pile, diapered and dressed, and all three of us slept through the whole night.  At some point I woke up in this dream, because my parents had arrived in town ready for action.  Jared was off in another room practicing the cello.  My parents were eager to know the baby's name, and I was having a hard time getting my eyes to open.  Anne, fortunately woke up more easily than I did.  Actually, the baby didn't have a name yet, and I didn't even know its gender yet.  In my semi-conscious state, I coached Anne through searching the cabinets for diapers, and eventually she came back successful.  I figured it was probably time for a diaper change, and I could at least find out the baby's gender, but I'd have to wait for Jared to reappear when he was done with his practing before giving it a permanent name.  I could feel my parents rolling their eyes in bemusement.

I keep laughing to myself about the dream, because other than the usual weirdness of dreams (e.g. the location of events seems rather fluid), it was SO realistic.  I can totally see this EXACT scenario happening.

I had a very thorough level 2 ultrasound a couple of weeks ago, and the baby looks great.  Also I declined to find out the gender.  This baby will be another surprise to us!  It may take the baby's parents a day or two after birth to assign it a name.  We've occasionally brainstormed and probably have ten or more girl names and ten or more boy names so far.  I haven't counted them exactly, but there's a growing hard-copy list of possibilities floating around.  After the baby is born, it will be like the Baskin Robbins dilema - too many flavors to choose from.  Jared and I collectively take our time making decisions, so probably my parents will show up and the baby will still be waiting for a name, and maybe a diaper change, too...
