Couch potato

The second half of this day is less productive than imagined due to the exhaustion brought on by this morning's half marathon prep workout.  I'm thinking I'll be sore tomorrow.  So in an effort to channel something, anything, I'm writing on my blog.

Emily and Chad were here the last few days, and we had some fun!  I wasn't involved in every event, as I did some teaching, was on baby time, and the fact that they were staying at Jeff and Linda's.... But here's what Anne and I (and on occasion Jared) did in the tourism/visiting department:

  • Pike Place Market (where I ate a sauerkraut, cabbage, carrot, onion piroschky for the first time)
  • Alki Beach (where I tested the Sound's water temperature with the fingers of my right hand: verdict = chilly)
  • Boeing Musem of Flight (where I saw a Tomahawk missile with fewer warnings on its side than Anne's car seat has)
  • Dinner at our place (where I didn't read the directions/got distracted and put twice as much liquid into the tortilla dough as required and thus had to add more corn flour until I had created a double batch - but it refrigerates well and we can have fresh tortillas tonight if I can muster the energy)
  • Breakfast at our place (where we determined that to get Anne into her UT cheerleader outfit requires some alterations involving scissors; I don't think the pattern maker did a reality check on a live baby)
  • Ferry ride to Bainbridge Island (where I did NOT get motion sick and enjoyed the scenery)
Also, there was our first fall group class, my Friday students, church, and baby nap times.  AND... a partial three-day nursing strike coupled with baby biting mommy while nursing.  And let me tell you about how razor sharp her lower two incisors are.  They're VERY sharp.  Anyway... nursing strike and biting seems to be over today.  No tourist activities today (e.g. no intense overstimulation of small nervous system), coupled with better naps (see previous clause), seems to have solved our problem.  I may or may not have shed one to two tears (but not three) in the backseat of the car after we parked on the island yesterday evening around 6:00 pm, and even though she'd only eaten ONCE all day, she refused again when I offered (even though she was acting super hungry) and bit me almost bloody for all my trouble, and I ended up having to express milk into a towel in the car while sitting on the main drag to relieve the pain of all the excess fluid.  But today we're back on an even keel.  Sad to say goodbye to my sister - they were headed off to Portland for a day or two on the bus.  However, on the positive side, we had our fun weekly Skype call to my parents and grandmother in Texas wherein Anne demonstrated her newest coordination skills with the Exersaucer toys, played the piano, fussed because her pajamas were too warm, and showed them how much she likes to dance to my silly improvised sound tracks...  After that I read her some books in bed.  And she's already eaten four or five times today and taken two VERY legit naps.

Ok, I will attempt to now channel my couch potato energy into some violin practice and laundry.  Ha.
